Montessori Workspace grew out of the classroom of Blue Mountain Montessori in Erie, CO. Kerry Merkel, Blue Mountain Montessori teacher and owner, set out to build the best Montessori School she could, making no exception for record keeping. Her husband, Tim Merkel, joined her mission, and together they set out to construct a system that enhanced and extended the Montessori teacher’s natural ability to guide their students to success.
Kerry earned her Psychology degree from the University of Colorado Boulder and later completed her Montessori certification. She became a lead Montessori teacher in Colorado and eventually fulfilled her dream of opening a school when she and her sister founded Blue Mountain Montessori in 2007. Outside of work, she enjoys time with her husband, Tim, and their three children: Darby, Hewitt, and Pierce.
Several years into Kerry’s teaching career, Tim saw her struggling with an overflowing binder of classroom notes. With 15+ years of software experience, he built the first version of Montessori Workspace to simplify her work. Soon, other teachers and schools wanted it too, revealing a widespread need. In 2011, Montessori Workspace launched its next version, which quickly gained adoption worldwide.
